New Segment: “The way my budget’s set up…”

There are certain things I set extra money aside for. I’ll be doing a new, fabulous, and pretty expensive Lux Staycation next month, so naturally I’ll be eating cheap chicken and working out in the great outdoors (not) until it’s all said and done. A lot of the things that I want take money, I understand that, of course. But there are certain things that I’ll look at the price of and say to myself, “Well, no ma’am.” It amazes me how much quality stuff (and things that, at first glance, look like they’d be a decent price) actually costs, i.e. an arm and a leg…or both legs.

So, I’m starting a new segment called, “The Way My Budget’s Set Up…” aka “I Really Want It, But Why Is It So Expensive??” aka TWMBSU. It will be dedicated to the fashion and beauty pieces that I want (at first) and then turn away from because…well, it’s too damn expensive. Let’s cut to the chase, shall we?

Exhibit #1:

When I first saw the Ariel Sneakers on Garance Dore’s Studio IG page, it was love at first sight. I love platform sneakers. So, of course I had to search for them.

The price? $895.

My love crumbled like a sandcastle destroyed by the waves of life. Yes, that was melodramatic but let me have my time to mourn

Exhibit #2:

Vince’s safari shirt jacket. I’m a huge fan of Vince: I’ve always loved their use of fabrics, the easiness of their casual wear, and ESPECIALLY their leggings. I’ve been wearing Vince for years. However, I’ve always worn Vince on a budget: every time my family and I would go to Disney World (YES, we still go), The Skincare Guru and I would always stop by the Vince Outlet Store and stock up on essentials at a fraction of the actual price.

So, naturally, I was shocked at the price I saw.

Again, $895.

NO, I did not know at the time that the breezy-looking jacket was actually constructed from nubuck. But still…! The Skincare Guru merely said, “Who the hell would pay that kind of money for a jacket like that?” My thoughts exactly…now.

Oh, well. C’est la vie.
